The logic of one picture worth a thousand words ... was adopted by the Municipality of Mykonos to promote the island in the international market.

Specifically, after consultation of the Tourism Council of the City with the British chain The Real Greek Restaurants, agreed and placed in the restaurant Convent Garden in London, two oversized photographs of Mykonos 8 square meters each, to dominate exclusively in the luxurious rooms, reminding patrons of the popular destination.

This action follows a report corresponding to BIT in Milan, where again Mykonos used a poster in the central pavilion of the South Aegean Region, in which participated.

The flights Borajet expected to increase significantly the number of Turkish visitors.

For a couple of hours, the evening sun turns the island dull brown rock to fool s gold. The narrow streets between the white cubist houses are full of people, from a distance all young, all beautiful, all impossibly fashionable. But that too is a trick of the light. When you look closely, you realise they are just the same people you stand next to every morning on the Tube, miraculously transformed for a fortnight a year. And they probably think the same about you.

Mykonos awarded No 1 island in Europe by Conde Nast Traveller Readers Choice Award.

If a person can name only one Greek island, it is bound to be this one. Famous in the 1960s, when Jackie and Ari Onassis put it on the map, it soon became the gay capital of the vacation world. Now, while still very rainbow flag, Mykonos is having a second coming as the chic see-and-be-seen Eurotrash island (jostling for first place with Ibiza). It is as whitewashed and pretty as its trillion pictures would suggest, and it is distinguished by a couple of unusual features: Mykonos Town, with its windmills and mazelike, stone-paved streets, as well as the gallery-bar-club neighborhood known as Little Venice for its Venetian-style houses lining the water.

The island nightlife is infamous, particularly the dance-till-dawn nightclubs.

The other draw of this island is, of course, the beach. There are several famous golden-sand stretches: Psarou is close to town and attracts a glam crowd; Panormos, on the north coast, is quieter and more protected from the wind; Platis Gialos is lined with hotels and popular with families. The most renowned beaches in the Cyclades—perhaps even in all of Greece—are Paradise and Super Paradise, two bacchanalian strands on the south coast. They are fun for a day, but once you get tired of the blaring disco soundtrack and Girls Gone Wild vibe, head to more grown-up Elia, which brings in a nice mix of straight and gay, nudist and clothed (all beaches on Mykonos are clothing-optional to a certain extent), has a good taverna, and provides access to water sports if you are feeling active.

The superyacht pictured here in Mykonos sails at anchor badly anyway, but when its skipper didn’t put out enough chain in 35 knots of wind on Sunday, she lost control altogether.

First, with no-one on deck, she was drifting out to sea in the high wind at great speed. Then, as her anchor caught inadvertently right next to a much smaller sailing yacht, she sailed, still with no-one on deck, straight into the sailing yacht.

We watched, helpless but with a fascinated horror, as the crew of the sailing yacht shouted over the wind, ran for fenders and got their entire crew on deck. Finally, just before the collision, bodies started to appear on the bigger motoryacht, but too late, too late, too late….

I simply fell in love with Mykonos, the tiny Greek island set like a sparkling jewel in the sun-dappled Aegean sea. Approaching from the water, Mykonos, bathed in brilliant sunshine is fairytale enchantment.

The year-round population is 6,600; in season, the numbers swell to more than 100,000. But the island is refreshingly unspoiled. Tiny storefronts leading into bakeries, confectioners, artisan jewelers and art galleries are tucked into narrow alleyways winding steeply uphill. Don't be surprised if you get lost in the maze.

Half-a-dozen windmills tower over the village - the islander's landmark. During 19th-century Turkish occupation, 28 windmills were in operation, making Mykonos an essential stop for passing ships to load up on bread.

Today, the remaining mills have been converted into private homes. Flat-roofed houses, rise tier upon tier up the mountainside, resembling a haphazard pile of dazzling snow-white sugar cubes.

From Mykonos, you can see the sacred islet of Delos, one of the religious centers of ancient Greece and the birthplace of Apollo and Artemis. Once there was a large Jewish population in Delos, and the islet was a stopover for Jewish sailors on trading routes. Today, you can still see the remnants of one of the synagogues.

But it's the food - simple, fresh and rustic - that makes me yearn to return.

ANG SAYA! exclaimed a gleeful Kris Aquino.

You’re too happy, Kris. Your smile is too big. Don’t be too happy! barked Jun de Leon from behind the camera, which was totally expected of the country’s top photographer and the official lensman of the Bench Body-Kris Aquino ad campaign.

But could anyone blame Kris? After all, she was being caressed (some would say fondled — touch is relative) by three disarmingly gorgeous European male models in the pristine blue waters of Paradise Beach. This was on the isle of Mykonos in none other than Greece!

Famous match-up

In yet another brilliant and daring stroke of advertising genius, Bench teamed up with Famous—yes, those star-studded cruise voyages and trips to faraway destinations like Australia, Egypt and now Greece—to bring their most popular Bench Body endorser to the land of gods and goddesses.

Famous 9, spearheaded of course by Keren Pascual, embarked on a week-long journey to Athens and Mykonos, an island off the coast of the capital. Aside from the photo shoot, on the agenda were exploring the Acropolis, hitting the Athenian nightlife, sunbathing on Paradise beach, and of course, wining and dining as the Greeks do.

Upon arrival in Greece, Bench screened dozens of European models to find the perfect Adonis worthy of donning Bench Body wear and appearing on a billboard with Kris. Those who made the cut were Ivo Zachan, a tall easygoing Slovakian who clicks with Pinoy humor, and Maximilian Eisler of Germany, a dead-ringer for Ryan Philippe.

A late addition to the roster was Jacob Sombiracoul, a half-Greek, half-Thai whose physique and handsome face so stood out while strolling along the boardwalk in Mykonos there was no doubt he would be a natural underwear model.

Bench also tapped a pretty Danish blonde, 18-year-old Alexandria, to model the latest garments from Kashieca and Greyhound alongside the Philippines’ own Nicolette Bell, herself half-British.

Perfect backdrop

Shooting took place in Mykonos, a picturesque Mediterranean island-town. Windmills turning in the distance, white stone houses, and clear blue sea made for the perfect backdrop.

Click Kodak fits gays and Mykonos into the picture
Date : August 31, 2005
Author : by Michael Wilke, Commercial Closet
The gay and lesbian market has developed such that Eastman Kodak Co. has brought them into the advertising picture. Literally.

The company, which popularized film and photography for the masses in the 1920s, has introduced a new campaign featuring gay-specific ads to run in LPI publications. The ads focus on the EasyShare camera line and printer dock. Each shows an image of people in the lens finder and printed photo.

While most of the ads feature three women who could be friends, one portrays two men in a romantic embrace. Created by Ogilvy & Mather, the campaign's taglines include Girls night out, Share a joke (while they're still laughing) and Digital. Simple. Fabulous.

While the company has been tiptoeing into the market for some time, with a trickle of ads supporting diversity and products in 1998, and again in 2002 and 2003, this spring marks the first continuous branding effort.

The new ads will be tracked for brand and product awareness, as well as purchase intent, afterward. It will be tied to how much we invest later, so we can move the needle, says Greg Walker, Kodak's director-VP for brand and market development and multicultural marketing.

From a creative standpoint, the gay theme to the ads works within the overall corporate campaign, says Walker. We are being as appropriately targeted to the audience as you can be.

So why specifically target gay photographers? What makes them different?

We don't view the act of picture-taking as being driven by sexual orientation. But the gay market is much more developed in digital photography, they're online more, and they travel a lot, explains Walker.

In other words, gays own more digital cameras. They take more pictures on more vacations. And more online familiarity means more digital sharing and printing of pictures from those trips to Ibiza, Mykonos and Phuket.

We continue with our account of the Bench pictorial in Greece. On Mykonos island, before we could even have a breather, we spent the whole day doing the photo shoot of Bench super troupers, Kris Aquino and Evo, at different locations of the island.

While we were having dinner and it was still light, a good-looking hunk walked before us talking on his cell phone. Miguel P. and I spotted him instantly and told Kris, Keren Pascual and Ben Chan to check the guy out, which they did.

Kris coaxed several of us to go up to him and ask him to join us. Keren agreed to do the job. Well, the hunk came, joined us and before you could even say, Wow, he'd be great as a model, Ben asked him to join Kris and the two other male models for our last day at the popular beach resort, Paradise, located at the east side of the island. Jacob,a 25-year-young half-Thai and half-Greek, became the third male model for the Bench billboard.

Apres a yummy breakfast at our hotel's terrace, we drove to the beach resort, and Jun de Leon went to work with Kris, Jacob, Max and Evo emoting right on the beach wearing Bench's latest underwear. The four of them were awesome, so much so that women and men sunbathing on the beach were taking photos of them as they modeled the clothes.

As we left that afternoon for Athens, I couldn't help but have a flashback on what Mykonos was like several years ago when I was there last. It was just a fishing village with lots of artists living on the island and a few tourists who went there to get away from the other more popular islands for the summer.

Well, today Mykonos is where the in crowd goes for suntan and swimming in the unpolluted crystal clear waters. Yachts of all shapes and sizes are docked along the shore line. Honeymooners jet there, such as Mai Mai Cojuangco and her husband, Italian heir, Andrea Zini. Tessa Prieto and her husband, southern gent Dennis Valdes , also spent days on the island after watching the Olympic Games in Athens last year. Business whiz and banker Noel Onate and his wife, young socialite Marianne Uy, also had been there while cruising the Mediterranean. Yes, dahlings, Mykonos has become the playground of the rich, the beautiful, and everyone who enjoys the sun and the beach.

Idyllic Mykonos is the new European escape, thanks to the influx of celebs (Matt Damon, Britney Spears, Sandra Bullock) who keep returning to the small island when Hollywood is in recess. Happily isolated, Mykonos is a six-hour ferry ride or a 20-minute flight from Athens.
Like anyone who docks herself here, you will most likely strut straight to the beach, so know your options abound. Most travelers flock to Super Paradise, the designated party beach where techno music is the 24-hour soundtrack and the party has no limits (and virtually no rules). The other popular beaches include Paradise (just a notch down in party-mode, but still retaining party elements), Elias (the relaxing beach where sunbathing is a ritual) and Ornos (the family beach with, well…families). Take note, all of the beaches are oddly segregated in two sections (heteros to the left, homos to the right), but, when you think about it, the strict division makes sense, as any man sexual status can be questioned in a skin-tight Speedo. Nudity on any beach is not discouraged—love thy natural bodies!
With its minimalist white-on-white architecture (Calvin Klein, anyone?), and white sands, Mykonos charms aesthetically with cinematic qualities that push magical to the limit. But do not forget the bustling city center. In Hora, narrow stone pathways with little structure string tourist-driven shops and outdoor cafes all the way to the docks. At night, Hora transforms into a vibrant nightlife scene, where bar-hopping is on everyone to-do-list.
